SHILLA KOREAN RESTAURANT (Formerly SEOUL DOOGBAEGI)
Shilla Korean Restaurant is a brand new business on Kingsway. This restaurant was previously called Seoul Doogbaegi. Shilla Korean has brand new owners.
SEOUL DOOGBAEGI (July 2018)
The old restaurant we previously featured on Gutom.
SHILLA KOREAN RESTAURANT (2019)
Nice spacious modern interior with big windows for natural light. Good for solo diners and groups.
At Shilla, Tteok-bokki (spicy rice cake) with Takoyaki (Japanese) combo seems like a unique appetizer not common at other similar restaurants. There is also Yam Fries, Shrimp tempura.
The rest of the menu at Shilla seems pretty standard with the usual items you’d find at similar Korean restaurants. Their fish offerings are Mackerel and Black Cod.
What we ordered
Fried Dumplings $8.98
7 Pieces of Pork filled dumplings. Good portion size.
Beef Tofu Soup $12.95
Mild spiciness. Lots of beef pieces and tofu.
Bibimbap $12.95
Beef, veggies, and egg on rice.
GUTOM-TIP: Remember to ask for a refill of Banchan Side Dishes. First refill is free.
PRICE:
$-$$ Affordable. $13+ for main dishes. $9 for appetizers.
No Weekday lunch special offered.
QUALITY:
OK. The Beef Tofu Soup had lots of beef however the soup was oily compared to other similar restaurants.
The Fried Dumplings were delicious and filling. The Bibimbap was nothing special.
SERVICE:
Needs improvement. It was very busy on the weekend lunch time at the time of this video. There was only one server working.
The server did not provide the rice that’s included with the Tofu soup until requested because the cook/she assumed the Bibimbap would enough rice for the meal!
VERDICT:
Shilla Korean Restaurant on Kingsway is a OK choice for Korean cuisine in East Vancouver. Unfortunately, they don’t have a lunch special menu, and the service might be slow during busy times.
