The Peri Peri Shack is a new business in East Vancouver located at Kingsway and Fraser. They serve chicken similar to Nando’s style, and have sandwiches, bowls, and whole chicken on the menu. Nice to see a new business offering something new in the area.
Is it good?
The Peri Peri Shack is like a fusion of South Asian and Portuguese chicken. The chicken is covered with sauces like Citrus and Herb, Mango, Original, Hot and Very Hot sauces.
Flame Grilled Chicken Sandwich + 1 Regular Side $15.50
Good portion size and comes with fries, or Basmati Spiced Rice, Mashed potatoes, Mac and Cheese, Coleslaw, or Quinoa.
Whole Chicken $21
Drumsticks, thigh, wing and breast.
PRICE:
$$ HIGH PRICE. $16 for a chicken sandwich! Expect to spend $20+.
QUALITY:
OK! The flavours were good. The chicken portions seemed big, and lots of meat with little to no fat. The skin isn’t crispy as it’s covered in sauce.
The Owner/Manager was honest enough to say that the chicken is cooked in a CONVECTION OVEN. Not a true grill or rotisserie. One the the thighs, seemed under cooked near the bone.
The fries were cold, and not fresh fried. I think they use the oven for the fries too instead of a deep fryer.
SERVICE:
OK! The Owner/Manager was friendly, helpful.
No utensils provided or napkins. Had to ask for utensils and napkins.
VERDICT:
Overall, SLIGHTLY SATISFIED. It’s not really flame grilled chicken but for what it is, Peri Peri Shack is just ok and as a new business needs improvement if they want to keep customers or expand.
