WALKING TOUR

Vancouver Chinatown

This video covers parts of Pender Street and Keefer Street.

Walking around Vancouver’s Historic Chinatown
This video was recorded in October 2020. The walk starts at Pender Street at the Vancouver Chinatown Millennium Gate and goes to sections of Main Street, and Keefer Street.

The Vancouver Chinatown Millennium Gate designed by Joe Y. Wai Architect, Inc was installed in 2002. The gate is a nice welcome to Vancouver’s Chinatown. Be sure to stop and take a picture with the Lions.

The Sam Kee Building home of Jack Chow Insurance is famous for being the narrowest building listed in Guinness Book of World Records. The sidewalk is also unique for being glass “Sidewalk Prisms” or vault lights, or pavement lights.

The Sun Yat-Sen Garden and Chinese Cultural Center have many events during non-covid times. Nice place for the Lunar New Year Parade events. Sun Yat-Sen was a famous politician considered ” The Father of the Nation” being instrumental in overthrowing the Qing dynasty.

Pender Street
Pender is the main strip of Chinatown that most tourists will go to. There are plenty of restaurants, and shops, and tourist attractions to visit. It has been gentrified over the years, and now there’s a nightclub music venue, and hip coffee shops.
